Peanut Butter Molasses Dog Cookies

‘Tis the season for spoiling everyone, including the important four-legged creatures of the household who I guarantee will love these Peanut Butter Molasses Dog Cookies. Since Chloé the dog is my constant cooking companion and part of the exciting challenge of the dirty laundry kitchen is dodging the doodle, it’s time you see how she was rewarded during the holiday season for being my sous chef: Peanut Butter Molasses Dog Cookies worthy of the good china. The funny part is, every time I cook for Chloé with healthful high quality ingredients, I ponder the sugar and butter that’s in my human desserts. This particular cookie is why I now use blackstrap molasses in all my cooking. It retains vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron as opposed to the refined sugar variety. When you taste these, you’ll definitely see why we add sugar to human cookies, but between the molasses and peanut butter, you won’t miss the fat. Also, these Peanut Butter Molasses Dog Cookies can be made ahead and stored for quite awhile in the freezer. But Chloé doesn’t like to savor them for months on end. She’s always on her best behavior and ready to shake after these come out of the oven. Or sit, or high five. She appreciated these Peanut Butter Molasses Dog Cookies all year long.

  2. I cannot emphasize enough to check the peanut butter for the ingredient xylitol, which is a common sweetener in sugar-free peanut butter. Xylitol is fatal to dogs. Instead of looking for sugar-free peanut butter, it would be advisable to try for all natural- certain brands are literally only peanuts and salt. Those are best.
